  • Catalogue Essay

In 1996 Patek Philippe released their first annual calendar wristwatch the reference 5035. Long recognized as a leader in innovated movement technology, the annual calendar mechanism allowed the wearer to only change the date once a year on March 1st . The calendar took in to account whether a month was 30 or 31 days long and corrected the date automatically.

The reference 5726A was released in 2010 in stainless steel with a leather strap, and upgraded in 2012 to include a stainless steel bracelet and new light silver dial. Patek Philippe’s Nautilus model is a favourite in the collecting community with its Jules Verne Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea inspired case by Gerald Genta. Introduced in 1976 as a luxury sports wristwatch it has been updated over the last 40 years and includes models from time only gold examples, to chronograph models. Still available today, the reference 5726A is a sporty watch, which is complimentary in any setting from a weekend at the beach, to negotiations in the boardroom. The present example is at auction for the first time and is in excellent overall condition with original factory finish.

Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
