In the 1930s, Louis Cottier designed an ingenious, ultra-thin mechanism that simultaneously displayed the correct hours across the world's time zones through a rotating 24-hour ring. Available in four precious metals, the reference 5131 was originally released in yellow gold, as the present example in 2008. As a successor to the ref. 5130 from 2006, the current reference features a cloisonné enamel dial, the city/region names of 24 world locations displayed on the outer ring.
The present example features a stunning dial with the Americas, Europe and Africa, whilst the white gold versions show Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania, and the pink gold models done with Asia, Oceania and the Americas.
Cased in a robust and balanced 39.5mm case, this timepiece is a contemporary horological masterpiece and undoubtably the perfect companion for the well-travelled connoisseur. Offered in barely worn, excellent overall condition, the now discontinued Patek Philippe world time ref. 5131J is further accompanied by its original Certificate of Origin and presentation box.
