Production records for a formally catalogued “Canards Mandarin” series remain exceptionally rare and primarily limited to private or bespoke commissions within the Rare Handcrafts portfolio, the motif aligns seamlessly with the Reference 5077’s history of avian and naturalistic themes, which have included cloisonné enamel depictions of swans, peacocks, manta rays, and tropical flora. Canards Mandarins – literally translating to Mandarin Ducks in English. A species of perching duck native to East Asia and renowned for their vibrant and colorful plumage. In Chinese culture, the Mandarin duck holds profound symbolic significance as an enduring emblem of fidelity and lifelong partnership, qualities that resonate deeply with collectors who appreciate watches as bearers of personal and cultural meaning.

The dial of this particular model presents a meticulously handcrafted cloisonné enamel scene of exceptional artistry. The central composition features two mandarin ducks, rendered with the same extraordinary level of detail and luminous coloration as the examples in the set. The larger duck occupies the center, showcasing a white head, prominent reddish-orange beak, golden crest and legs, and richly layered plumage in deep brown, iridescent blue and gold accents. Positioned above and to the left, on an earthen bank, the second duck appears in a complementary pose, equally detailed in matching hues and textures.

The background consists of a deep blue enamel field, set in a darker, textured landform in muted earth tones extends along the left side of the dial, adding depth and narrative contrast to the aquatic setting. The elegant dauphine gold hour and minute hands traverse the scene, with no hour markers or numerals to preserve the scenic integrity.

The first example to appear at auction, the present masterpiece is kept in the same collection from the original owner since 2009 and kept in a single-sealed condition. This is a incredible opportunity for enamel timepiece lovers to acquire such an attractive and exceedingly rare example.

Patek Philippe

Since its founding in 1839, this famous Geneva-based firm has been surprising its clientele with superbly crafted timepieces fitted with watchmaking's most prestigious complications. Traditional and conservative designs are found across Patek Philippe's watches made throughout their history — the utmost in understated elegance.

Well-known for the Graves Supercomplication — a highly complicated pocket watch that was the world’s most complicated watch for 50 years — this family-owned brand has earned a reputation of excellence around the world. Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
