Launched in 1976, the Patek Philippe Nautilus irrevocably redefined the concept of the luxury sports wristwatch. Conceived by the legendary Gérald Genta, its distinctive porthole inspired case drew subtle influence from the imagined submarine of Captain Nemo in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, resulting in a design that was both unconventional and enduringly elegant. Over the decades, the Nautilus has evolved through a variety of references and complications, cementing its status as one of the most recognizable and coveted timepieces in modern horology.
Introduced in 2016 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Nautilus, the present reference 5711P/1P pays homage to the original “Jumbo” reference 3700/1A while elevating the model to its most refined expression. Crafted in platinum, the watch embodies understated opulence, with its signature blue dial enhanced by baguette cut diamond hour markers that lend a discreet yet unmistakable brilliance. A subtle “1976–40–2016” inscription at six o’clock further distinguishes this commemorative edition, underscoring its significance within the lineage.
Factory double-sealed and consigned by its original owner, the present timepiece is offered complete with its Certificate of Origin and the highly distinctive cork presentation box. Fresh to the market and retained within a single ownership since new, it presents a compelling opportunity to acquire one of the most important commemorative Nautilus references, made all the more relevant as 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the Nautilus collection.
