Perpetual Calendar Chronograph “Sapphire-Set”
A highly desirable and exceptionally rare platinum and sapphire-set perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch with dégradé blue dial, moon phases, leap year, day/night indicator, solid caseback, certificate of origin, and presentation boxes
Full-Cataloguing
• One of only 10 pieces believed produced
• Set with 80 baguette-cut sapphires, totaling 4.92 carats
• Excellent condition
• Fresh-to-market
First debuting in 2014 as part of an extremely limited series of gem-set perpetual calendar chronographs, the 5271 is the gem-set version of the 5270 (much like the 5971 was the gem-set version of the 5970). Diamond, ruby, emerald, and sapphire examples have been produced in extremely small numbers in the ensuing decade, only offered to Patek Philippe’s most important clients.
The sapphires are baguette-cut and invisibly set to the bezel as well as the tops of the lugs and the engraved clasp. An additional sapphire acts as the 12 o’clock marker. Unlike the diamond, emerald, and ruby versions which are all fitted with a black gloss dial, the sapphire version instead sports a dégradé blue dial.
Fresh to the auction market, this is only the fourth appearance of a sapphire-set 5271P, and the first instance of the 5271/11P to be offered by Phillips. Complete with all its original accessories, we are pleased to present such an exceptional melding of technical mastery and aesthetic innovation.
