Released as a limited edition of just 500 pieces, the Patek Philippe ref. 5038 in white gold is a perpetual calendar wristwatch of quiet distinction. Beneath its elegant exterior beats the maison's innovative self-winding cal. 240 Q, whose micro-rotor enables an exceptionally slim profile—a remarkable feat for a complication of this complexity.
Launched in 1996, the ref. 5038 draws directly from this lineage. Its case proportions and movement architecture echo the revered ref. 3940, yet it asserts a distinct identity through a hobnail (Clous de Paris) bezel and a striking black lacquered dial adorned with white painted Roman numerals—an elegant departure from its predecessor's more restrained aesthetic.
Produced exclusively in white gold and never revisited, it occupies a unique place in the collection. The present example, preserved in excellent overall condition and accompanied by its Certificate of Origin and presentation box, offers collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a distinctive and handsome perpetual calendar from the Geneva manufacture.
