In 2004, Patek Philippe released the rare and desirable ref. 3711/1G featuring its classic ribbed dial, however in glossy black differing from its usual greyish blue hue. Admired by collectors, the 42mm diameter white gold case was appreciated by many due to its luxurious heft. It was offered only in a white gold case but slightly thicker to make room for a sapphire case back and saw the addition of a second’s hand.

Produced only for a mere three years, it is estimated that no more than 200 examples of the reference were produced annually during its production span and according to research only approximately 35 examples has appeared publicly in the market. To further highlight its rarity, no more than 10% of the entire production has surfaced in the market since its launch, making the ref. 3711 extremely rare.

The present example Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 3711/1G-001 from 2005 is offered in excellent overall condition confirmed by the Extract from the Archives. According to our research, this is the 35th example to appear in the auction market and is further fresh-to-the-market. This year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Nautilus, collectors have taken a larger interest in collecting rare, discontinued and desirable Nautilus references, and this present specimen surely falls under that category.

Patek Philippe

Swiss | 1839

Since its founding in 1839, this famous Geneva-based firm has been surprising its clientele with superbly crafted timepieces fitted with watchmaking's most prestigious complications. Traditional and conservative designs are found across Patek Philippe's watches made throughout their history — the utmost in understated elegance.

Well-known for the Graves Supercomplication — a highly complicated pocket watch that was the world’s most complicated watch for 50 years — this family-owned brand has earned a reputation of excellence around the world. Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
