Catalogue Essay
With a classic and traditional appeal, the Patek Philippe ref. 5940 was launched in 2012 as a successor to the former ref. 5040. Featuring a perpetual calendar complication, this reference allows clients to own a Patek Philippe perpetual calendar wristwatch housed in an Art-Deco-inspired cushion-shaped case. Initially available in yellow gold, the white gold variant was introduced two years later in 2014, featuring a silvery white dial, followed by a black dial variant the subsequent year.

Measuring a comfortable 37mm in diameter, the elegant case of the ref. 5940 houses a stunning dial adorned with applied white gold Breguet numerals, an exquisite detail appreciated by collectors. The Art-Deco-inspired font of the date wheel adds a subtle yet charming touch, enhancing the watch's vintage appeal.

The present example with a silvery white dial from circa 2015 is very well-preserved and comes complete with its full set of accessories, including the original additional solid caseback. With its attractive wrist presence, the ref. 5940 is highly appreciated by collectors looking for a perpetual calendar wristwatch from the firm that pioneered the very first self-winding perpetual calendar wristwatch.
