Catalogue Essay
Produced between 2012 and 2019, arguably the present ref. 5235G is an underrated model when compared with other modern Patek Philippe watches. It is sharp and very technical looking, yet it is in fact heavily influenced by the vintage ref. 3448 Perpetual Calendar’s case design which debuted in 1962.
With a three-tone dial and navy blue numerals, it looks incredibly symmetrical and legible. Powering the timepiece is Patek Philippe’s ultra-thin automatic calibre 31-260 REG QA. The rhodium-plated movement features a distinctive regulator-style architecture, visible through the sapphire display caseback. What sets this calibre apart is its integration of advanced research components, including a silicon escape wheel, anchor, and balance spring. These elements make the movement highly antimagnetic and shock-resistant, while also improving long-term reliability and precision. The layout is both unconventional and elegant, showcasing Patek Philippe’s mastery in combining technical sophistication with aesthetic finesse.
In 2019, Patek Philippe officially discontinued ref. 5235 in white gold, replacing it with a pink gold model with black outer track and subsidiary dials and a dark grey dial. It remains highly sought-after for its clean, modern aesthetic and rarity. Offered in excellent overall condition, the present circa 2015 example is accompanied by its Certificate of Origin and original accessories.
