Catalogue Essay
Quiet yet confident, the Calatrava ref. 5000 is a classical yellow gold wristwatch that offers distinctive Patek Philippe detailing and balanced proportions. First debuted in 1992 as a 500-piece limited-edition in 18K white gold, the ref. 5000 was later released in both 18K yellow gold and pink gold. Eventually it was discontinued in 2004.

The model’s immediate success was not only a tribute to its ideal size but also its sapphire case back that reveals the inner workings of the automatic movement, with emphasis on the cal. 240 featuring a micro-rotor. The present example offers a delicious black dial adorned with hand-applied bassine style Arabic numerals, an internal railway minute track and eccentric subsidiary seconds in yellow gold. The potent combination of these features is a harmonious marriage between the maker’s early pocket watch aesthetics and today’s effortless modern design.

Do not be fooled by its slim, discrete profile. This three-handed dress watch is a small giant that holds a strong wrist presence while being a versatile timepiece that can fit into any dress cuff or tight sleeve. Offered in well-preserved overall condition, this fresh-to-the-market Patek Philippe Calatrava 5000J is a timeless piece accompanied by its Certificate of Origin and full set of accessories.
