Catalogue Essay
The design of the off-white enamel dial aligns with the Japanese aesthetic concept of wabi sabi, fully encapsulating a subtle elegance rooting from simplicity. It is marked by a very small index at the 6 o’clock, hinting that it’s a later production. The present example is a fourth series example from circa 1960, that is equipped with the second-generation automatic calibre 27-460 and is fitted with a flat screw back. The inside case back is stamped with the case maker key number 2, indicating that the case was made by F. Baumgartner.
Offered in exceptional overall condition with a strong case featuring deep hallmarks and an attractive layer of patina, the present example is further accompanied by its original Patek Philippe presentation box, and a copy of the “Watch Museum VOGA Antique Collection " by Mr. Toshio Masui, with the present watch featured on the cover and on page 131. Its state of preservation, easy wearability, and iconic design would surely make this an exceptional wristwatch for any collector.
