Catalogue Essay
- Patek Philippe has long been renowned for its expertise in creating exceptional perpetual calendar wristwatches, with the introduction of the world's first self-winding perpetual calendar wristwatch, the reference 3448, in the early 1960s.
- In 2006, Patek Philippe introduced the upgraded reference 5140 to replace the iconic 3940. While the case and dial design bore a strong resemblance to the previous reference, the 5140 featured a slightly larger 37.2mm case diameter and a larger date ring to enhance the legibility of the dial.
- The present example of the reference 5140, dating to around 2008, is cased in classic 18k yellow gold and featured an attractive opaline silvery dial.
- Overall, it is an understated and elegant perpetual calendar timepiece that makes a great everyday wear on any occasion.
