Catalogue Essay
In 1981, Patek Philippe released the ref. 4700 ladies Nautilus measuring a petite 26mm diameter case. Released in stainless steel, two tone stainless steel and gold as well as platinum the cases were made by La-Chaux-de-Fonds master casemaker Favre-Perret. It is still today the smallest ever Nautilus reference ever produced by the firm. A daunting period for the Swiss watch industry, the mid 1980s witnessed heights of the quartz crisis. The ref. 4700 differing from its older sibling ref. 3700 were powered by the firm’s quartz cal. E19 C. Offering a wide array of variations across all metals it is believed that over 36 known variants of the reference was produced from 1981 to 2004.

The present example Patek Philippe ref. 4700/1 in yellow gold with a smoky black ribbed dial is certainly a classic. A perfect timepiece for the discerned lady collector, the present example is further confirming by an Extract from the Archives issued by Patek Philippe.
