Catalogue Essay
• The Panerai Luminor Arktos PAM00092 is a timepiece born from the spirit of exploration and the relentless pursuit of pushing boundaries. Crafted in collaboration with celebrated explorer Mike Horn, this special edition watch commemorates his legendary Arktos™ Expedition, a solo, un-motorized journey around the Arctic Circle, which embarked in 2002 from the North Cape in Norway. Within 27 months, he crossed Greenland, Canada, Alaska, the Bering Strait and Russian Siberia before completing his expedition. Engineered to withstand the extreme cold and polar magnetic fields, the PAM00092 was not merely a watch, but a precision instrument designed to accompany Horn through some of the harshest conditions on Earth.

• Encased in a robust 44mm stainless steel case, the Panerai Luminor Arktos PAM00092 combines rugged durability with refined elegance. Its black dial and automatic movement reflect Panerai’s signature balance of style and functionality, while the caseback engraving of the Arctic Circle pays tribute to Mike Horn’s extraordinary Arktos Expedition and Panerai’s steadfast support.

• Inside the case, the calibre OP III is protected by a soft iron inner cage, shielding the movement from the intense magnetic fields encountered in polar regions. Special oil is also applied to protect it from the Arctic temperatures that range -70°C to +15°C. This technical feature ensures reliable performance even in the most extreme environments. A standout element of the PAM00092 is its unidirectional rotating bezel, designed for navigation. The bezel features four cardinal points applied in white gold, allowing explorers to determine direction using the sun. By pointing the hour hand at the sun, north can be found halfway between the hour hand and the 12 o’clock position, hence enabling the wearer to align the bezel accordingly and orient themselves in the field.

• Mike Horn has been a global ambassador for Panerai for nearly two decades, and their partnership has been instrumental in his expeditions. From polar crossings to high-altitude climbs without oxygen, Panerai has provided not just timepieces, but reliable tools that empower Horn to connect with nature and share his experiences with a global audience. The PAM00092 is more than a collector’s item but a symbol of adventure. More importantly, it is a tribute to Horn’s pioneering spirit, and a reflection of Panerai’s dedication to crafting instruments that go beyond limits.

• Numbered 216 of a limited edition of 500 pieces, the present example is offered in excellent condition along with its full set of accessories.

Panerai

Italian | 1860
Known for its robust designs and large case sizes, Officine Panerai was established in 1860 by Giovanni Panerai in Florence, Italy. Around 1900, Giovanni's grandson Guido Panerai took over, and Panerai became the supplier to the Regia Marina — the Royal Italian Navy. After supplying the navy with high-precision instruments for a number of years, Officine Panerai created Radiomir, a radium-based powder that gives luminosity to the dials of sighting instruments and devices. By 1936, the Royal Italian Navy approached Panerai again with the request to design a watch resistant to extreme underwater conditions. The watch they created became known as the "Radiomir".
Panerai's watches made during the early twentieth century era were comprised of cases designed and manufactured by Rolex SA, with Cortébert, a Swiss manufacturer, supplying the majority of their movements. The most recognizable designs from the firm are the Radiomir and Luminor. To date, vintage models from the first half of the 1900s, such as the reference 3646 and 6152 models, remain the most desirable among collectors.
