Heavy and enjoyable to hold and operate, these Omega split-second chronographs were originally designed for the Olympic games. I love how they emphasized legibility and ergonomics, featuring large pushers and bold typefacing. - Mark Cho

    - Omega became the official timekeeper of the Olympics at the Los Angeles Games in 1932, supplying 30 high-precision chronographs for use across all sports. Each stopwatch was officially certified and tested for precision in Switzerland, convincing the Olympic Organising Committee to select Omega for the Games. Official results were recorded to fifths and tenths of a second.

    - The present example is a well-preserved ref. MG1155 from circa 1961, boasting a crisp white dial with black painted Arabic numerals, an outer minute track, 1/10th second chronograph divisions, along with subsidiary seconds and 30-minute counters. The blue steeled epee hands are contrasted with a vivid red chronograph seconds hand. Powered by the cal. 1130, this is an accurate and beautifully calibrated utility, producing the most profound and distinct ticking sound that is simply music to one's ears.

    - Complemented by its original red timekeeper’s case and guarantee, the current ref. MG1155 is stylish and practical timepiece that has withstood the test of time.

  • Artist Biography

    Omega

    Swiss • 1848

Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.

Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
