    - First presented in 1968, the “Silver Snoopy Award” is a prestigious prize bestowed to significant contributors of NASA. This award was part of the Manned Flight Awareness program where NASA astronauts selected and awarded members of the community who played their part in space travel. Omega was awarded the Silver Snoopy Award in 1970, when the Speedmaster successfully helped time the launch back to earth during the Apollo 13 crisis, following an oxygen tank explosion that jeopardized the mission. The “Silver Snoopy Award” continues today, and is held in the same level of importance as it did four decades ago.

    - The present “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary, is a special edition chronograph celebrating the Snoopy lineage in Omega’s collection. The ref. 3578.51 is the third edition and prominently features Snoopy on the dial, as well as on the animated caseback with the “Eyes on the Stars” designation. Through the sapphire caseback, NASA’s favourite beagle is seen rocketing across the moon every 14 seconds, nodding to the time taken for the Apollo 13 crew to right the course of their damaged spacecraft. The lives of the three men onboard depended on the Speedmaster Professional they were armed with to work seamlessly.

    - This 2020 edition retains the Speedmaster Professional design with its case shape resembling the late 1960s model, ref. ST105.012. The chronograph features a “Naiad Lock” caseback allowing the inscriptions to always appear in the upright position. The movement is covered with a night blue plate with white dots to represent the sky, and there is a rotating Earth as seen from the moon while a Command and Service Module with Snoopy inside rotates around to the dark side of the moon.

    - Presented in “like-new” condition with its original accessories, this is an opportunity to acquire one of the few “Snoopy” Speedmaster models produced in celebration of Omega and NASA's long and important history.

  • Artist Biography

    Omega

    Swiss • 1848

Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.

Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
