  • Catalogue Essay

    - Launched in early 2022 together with its green dial counterpart (see lot 6), this iteration of the Speedmaster is one of the most critically and commercially successful in recent times, redefining Omega's approach to the segment of gold sports watches after the "homage" gold Speedmaster of 2019.

    - Crafted from proprietary alloy Moonshine gold - featuring a paler hue inspired by the glow of the full moon - the present version features an enchanting and hardly definable powder/sand/salmon two-tone dial. As the dial harmonizes with the Moonshine gold case (rather than opposing it as in the green dial version), the contrast is entrusted in this instance to the black bezel, counters and strap - the latter featuring the lovely detail of a crater-like embossing to the back, hinting at the glorious history of the Speedmaster.

    - The watch is offered in superb condition by the original owner.

    - Offered with no reserve, the proceeds of the sale will benefit the Turin-based Regina Margherita Children's Hospital. Already one of the most respected Italian hospitals specialized in the treatment of rare, difficult and chronic ailments in children, the institution has currently the goal of opening a new Neonatal and Early Infancy Pathologies Department.

  • Artist Biography

    Omega

    Swiss • 1848

Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.

Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
