The sumptuous “Moonwatch Rainbow” offered here is a dramatic, contemporary reinterpretation of the legendary collection. Crafted in Omega’s proprietary 18K Moonshine™ gold, this lot marries the historical pedigree of the Moonwatch with haute joaillerie and modern gem‑setting techniques to produce a timepiece that is celebratory, luxuriously executed and unmistakably of its era.
Omega’s Moonshine™ gold is a proprietary alloy formulated to deliver a paler yellow hue and improved resistance to fading compared with traditional yellow gold. Hefty on the wrist, the total gold weight is approximately 193 g, giving it a commanding presence.
The most striking feature is the rainbow‑set bezel: a graduated sequence of precisely matched sapphires that forms a vivid chromatic halo, executed with exceptional consistency of colour, cut and alignment—evidence of high jeweller’s work aligned with Omega’s pursue of maximum quality in gem-setting. The solid gold dial continues the motif, with matching coloured indexes that enhance the overall harmony, further elevating the piece as a luxurious mechanical jewel.
Produced in an edition of only 10 pieces and reserved for the most discerning Omega collectors at retail, this reference makes its auction debut at Phillips. Preserved in excellent condition with very scarce wrist time, it is offered complete with its full set of accessories.
Omega
Swiss | 1848Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.
Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
