Catalogue Essay
- The Speedmaster is already one of the most storied watches in history: the first watch worn on the moon, a symbol of human exploration and resilience. But this new white-dial version, launched in 2024, adds a fresh narrative layer to that legacy.

- In the 1970s, Omega developed a prototype for NASA called the Alaska I, which featured a white dial to reflect heat in space. This new model pays homage to that experimental spirit, bringing a piece of that hidden history into the spotlight. It has gained early fame when spotted on Daniel Craig’s wrist in 2023. His choice wasn’t just about style but a nod to the Speedmaster’s cinematic and cultural relevance.

- The white lacquered step dial marks a striking departure from the traditional matte black, offering a fresh and poetic interpretation of the Speedmaster’s lunar legacy. Its crisp white surface evokes the purity of space, the brilliance of the moon, and the clean geometry of astronaut suits. Accents like the red-tipped seconds hand and the red “Speedmaster” inscription subtly echo the red stripes found on NASA space suits, reinforcing the watch’s spacefaring identity. While it retains the iconic “dot over 90” black aluminium bezel insert seen on the standard model, the contrast against the white dial makes it appear bolder and more pronounced. Flipping the watch over, a sapphire caseback reveals the Master Chronometer-certified Calibre 3861—a modern, manually wound movement that blends vintage charm with cutting-edge performance.

- Altogether, these design elements not only honor the watch’s heritage but also enhance its legibility and resilience—qualities essential for space exploration. This timepiece stands as a tribute to Omega’s spirit of experimentation: a modern icon that bridges history, innovation, and timeless elegance.

Omega

Swiss | 1848
Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
