The Omega Speedmaster “Racing” models first appeared in the 1960’s and was launched in three series. Extremely sought after in the market today, early examples are highly desirable due to its sporty appeal through its dial and that they were scarcely produced.
In 2004, Omega reintroduced the “Racing” dial and was made only for the Japanese market referenced 3750.40. With the design of the dial very similar to examples from the 1960’s, the new model featured a crayon grey dial with red, white and orange accents. Upgraded and an understated feature, the orange accents on the dial were applied with luminous material, and when one sheds UV light on the dial, the orange accents display a neon glow. Adapting essentially the same concept as the original models, the tri-colored dial provides an enhanced legibility for wearers. Contrasting beautifully against a crayon grey dial, the Speedmaster “Racing” Japan is without a doubt a wonderfully executed iteration of the much loved Speedmaster “Racing” model. It is believed that only 2,004 examples were produced.
The present lot is a charming example of the ref. 3750.40 from circa 2004 presented in excellent overall condition. It is further accompanied by the original undated Omega international warranty card stamped with a Japanese retailer and its original fitted presentation box. Confirmed by Omega Extract from the Archives, the present example was manufactured in 2004 and its subsequent delivery to Japan on 6th August 2004.
