  • Catalogue Essay

    - Kuala Lumpur-based micro-brand, Ming is an innovative representative of contemporary high horology. Combining high-end Swiss watchmaking and clean aesthetics, its classical case with a modern twist has become an instant hit among collectors.

    - Released in 2021, the Ming 37.05 "Moon-phase" marks MING’s minimalist and avant-garde attempt of combining a date with moon phase function rendering, the timepiece extremely functional with an homage to horology.

    - The integration of the functions on the dial is second to none. Divided in two layers, the lower one is a textured metal, in a midnight blue-to-black gradient, with an upper transparent sapphire dial above that showcases the hour indexes and hour index ring, both covered in HyCeram (a ceramic composite with luminous material)

    - The movement in the case is a Sellita SW288. Highly modified by Schwartz-Etienne, the movement is skeletonized, matte-blasted, and anthracite-plated, with contrasting rhodium accents. Cased at 38mm in diameter, the watch sits extremely comfortable on the wrist and its minimalist attire makes it extremely legible.

    - Coming with its full set of accessories and in "like-new" condition, the present timepiece is a fantastic opportunity to acquire an avant-garde looking and exceptional Ming design.

  • Artist Biography

    Ming

    British • 1975

Ming Lampson was born in Sydney, grew up in Hong Kong, and settled in London.  Some 20 years ago, her love of gemstones led her to Jaipur, where she apprenticed with a goldsmith and worked with gem dealers, learning about coloured gems. Returning to London, she studied jewellery-making, diamond-grading, and coloured stones and pearls with the GIA.  Since then, Ming has worked as a private jeweller, creating one-of-a-kind bespoke jewels for a select clientèle.   Her early years in Hong Kong gave her both her Chinese name and an enduring fascination with the East. So that when, more recently, she created two themed collections, Oriental Garden and Reverence for Nature, both were Orientalist in inspiration. Her designs are imaginative, her craftsmanship traditional and meticulous and all her jewellery is hand-made in her own workshops in London.
