Catalogue Essay
Montauk, the far eastern tip of Long Island, plays a formative role in Dweck’s work. Inspired by its surfing subculture, Dweck first discovered the community in the 1970s then began photographing scenes around Montauk in 2002. Of his Montauk images, Dweck states, 'It is an evocation of a real-world paradise lost: the paradise of summer, youth, and erotic possibility – and of a community and camaraderie in a perfect setting.'
