Catalogue Essay

- Horological Machine No. 2 (HM2) is an exceptionally unorthodox timepiece that epitomizes the MB&F innovative spirit and avant-garde design philosophy. This example is one of the 125 pieces in this limited edition collection. Launched in 2008, HM2 showcases a distinctive rectangular case with a unique layout, featuring separate displays for hours, minutes, retrograde date, and a bi-hemisphere moon phase indicator.
- Featuring flying buttresses and bolted portholes, the present HM2 reminds one of space platforms straight out of 20th century science fiction. The dial with two round portals separates the time indication from the date and bi-hemisphere moon displays. The large rectangular case with locking push crown houses a “machine” that is a wonderful example of micro-engineering, featuring an instantaneous jump hour with retrograde minute and date sectors.
-The HM2 timepiece combines cutting-edge technology with artistic craftsmanship, resulting in a watch that is both a technical marvel and a piece of wearable art. Its bold aesthetics and innovative functionality make the Horological Machine No. 2 a standout in the world of luxury watches, appealing to collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate originality and technical mastery.
- According to the book "MB&F the First 15 Years, A Catalogue Raisonné" only 29 pieces were made in this configuration.
