Catalogue Essay
- The result of the collaboration between Louis Erard and one of the most creative modern independent watchmakers, Konstantin Chaykin, the present lot is exciting and striking. Named the Time Eater, the pair of watches are inspired by the Wristmons, and more particularly, by Konstantin Chaykin’s first Joker watch – whose eyes were made up of white discs marked with a dot for time indication. Using the typical Erard régulateur layout, Chaykin made a watch dial resembling a cyclop, inspired by the one-eyed Likho character from Slavic fairy tales. Limited to 178 pieces in a 42mm case with green rehaut and 178 pieces in a 39mm case with purple rehaut.
- The hours are indicated via a rotating disc resembling an eye while the seconds at six are represented via a disc with pointed teeth, turning like the devouring mouth of an ogre. The minutes are indicated via a central hand made to look like the monster's hand. Preserved in virtually unworn condition, the present set of the two Time Eater watches mark a rare appearance on the market, giving collectors the opportunity to acquire a matching pair of a limited edition set that was sold out minutes after its official presentation.
