-Introduced in 2025 to celebrate Laurent Ferrier’s 15th anniversary, the Sport Auto 79 is a striking tribute to the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Laurent Ferrier, François Servanin and François Trisconi achieved an extraordinary third-place overall finish as amateur drivers. It was following this race that Ferrier and Servanin began dreaming of one day creating their own watchmaking company, making the events of 1979 an important origin story for the manufacture that would eventually bear Ferrier’s name.
-The Sport Auto 79 translates this history into one of the manufacture’s most luxurious sports watches to date. Its beautifully rounded 41.5mm case and integrated bracelet are rendered entirely in 18K 5N red gold, contrasting against a warm cream-colored dial produced through a silver-rose galvanic treatment with an opaline finish.
-The automatic, micro-rotor caliber LF270.01 offers a robust 72-hour power reserve and is distinguished by its 950 platinum oscillating weight, discreetly engraved with numerical references to the 1979 Le Mans race, alongside beautifully hand-finished, ruthenium-treated bridges. Combining an important chapter of Laurent Ferrier’s personal history with the manufacture’s celebrated finishing and contemporary sports-watch design, the present Sport Auto 79 is, at the time of cataloging, the first example of the model to appear on the Phillips auction platform and is offered in like-new condition.
Laurent Ferrier
Swiss | 2008Introducing its first watch to critical acclaim in 2010, Laurent Ferrier was founded by long-time Swiss watchmaker of the same name. Following a 37-year career at Patek Philippe, Ferrier founded the brand in 2008, creating timeless wristwatches inspired by the finest wrist and pocket watches from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Revered by collectors around the world for their genuine innovations and understated elegance, the brand specializes in exquisitely hand-finished movements featuring state-of-the-art watchmaking technology. Galet, or "pebble" in French, describes the signature feature of the brand's cases used across its collection — with soft curves, domed crystals and rounded edges reminding one of a smooth pebble.
Key models include the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral and the Galet Micro-Rotor, with stunning movement architectures designed after prestigious observatory chronometer movements of the twentieth century.
