Catalogue Essay
Those familiar with Lang & Heyne’s collections will recognise the brand’s commitment to weaving historical narratives into its timepieces, with each series named after a ruler from Saxony’s past. The designs are distinctly German, rooted in classical aesthetics that reflect their historical inspiration. The present watch draws from the legacy of Friedrich III, who in 1349 assumed control of Thuringia and Meissen. His pragmatic leadership, marked by the development of public administration and internal policies, laid the groundwork for the region’s future resilience.

Introduced at Baselworld in 2013, the Friedrich III model embodies this spirit of clarity and purpose. Its design is understated yet refined, echoing the ruler’s straightforward approach. Offered in various materials, including stainless steel and 18K pink gold, and with dial options such as salmon, blue, silver and black, the collection offers a wide range of appeal. The present example, featuring a stainless steel case and a glossy black dial paired with 18K pink gold spade hands, is a particularly elegant configuration that is no longer in production.

The present example numbered 1 was crafted during Marco Lang’s tenure at the company, prior to his departure in 2019, adding further significance to its provenance. It is offered in well-preserved condition, along with its full set of accessories, and is complemented by its original black crocodile strap, which enhances the overall sophistication and harmony of the design. With its historical depth, refined craftsmanship and rare configuration, this timepiece stands as a compelling example of Lang & Heyne’s dedication to tradition and excellence.
