In 2012, Ikepod announced at Baselworld their collaboration with art world phenomenon KAWS, which resulted an exceptional timepiece fusing KAWS’s distinctive aesthetics with Ikepod’s playful design.
Initially introduced to the collectible toy scene through his collaboration with the Japanese toy company Bounty Hunter, KAWS has a deep relationship with Japan since he created his first toy 'COMPANION' after visiting the country. He has said during an interview for the “KAWS TOKYO FIRST” exhibition in 2021 that, “I have always felt a strong connection with Japanese culture. And it has always been a great source of motivation and inspiration for my creative activities.” Greatly influenced by Japanese visual culture, his work has featured some of Japan’s most iconic cartoon and manga characters like Astro Boy and Goku from Dragon Ball.
A blessed union of high horology and contemporary art, the present Ikepod Horizon by KAWS, no. 82, is preserved in attractive conditions, and is a delightful addition to the collection of the discerning watch and art collector.
