Catalogue Essay
Initially released in 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso wristwatch is one of the most iconic and recognizable timepieces ever produced. The patented reversible case design allows the dial to be reversed and protected, and it is believed it was original produced for British officers on the subcontinent, who found their watches were damaged during Polo matches. Jaeger-LeCoultre developed this unique sport watch so riders could ‘reverse’ their watch and protect the dial. The model has been reintroduced throughout the decades in many variations, however the overall DNA with its double-sided case has remained unchanged.

Jaeger LeCoultre’s Reverso is timeless and elegant in any format, however the “Classic” model is thin and comfortable to wear and is close to the original 1930s model in design.
The present Reverso Classic Medium Thin with quartz movement is a lovely example with the modern aesthetic format. The vibrant white dial is highlighted by the black Arabic numerals with the reverse caseback polished and currently unadorned.

The fortunate purchaser will have the opportunity to personalize the reverse side of the case through Jaeger LeCoultre’s Reverso Engraving Services. Included with this lot, this factory customization includes a choice of initials or dates in a variety of font styles, Zodiac signs, or famous cities, all with the option of adding coloured lacquer and/or a delicate frame to highlight the design. The purchaser may also request simple text messages in the elegant and traditional Lettre Anglaise typo.

Generously donated by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the present Reverso Classic Medium Thin is in brand new, unused condition. The watch is complete with warranty and presentation pouch. It is a tribute to horology’s long traditional past and the lasting appeal of the Reverso wristwatch.

Jaeger-LeCoultre

Swiss | 1833
Not all companies in the watchmaking field have been able to stand the test of time quite like Jaeger LeCoultre, also known as the "watchmaker's watchmaker." Founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre and originally named LeCoutre, the firm provided watchmaking's top brands, such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, the high-grade, unfinished mechanical movements with which they completed their watches.

In the early 1900s, Cartier's watch supplier Edmond Jaeger sought out LeCoultre's help in creating the world's thinnest watches. The collaboration resulted in the creation of Cartier's earliest Tank and Santos watches, all housed with LeCoultre movements. The duo decided to merge in 1937, and the firm officially became the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand by which collectors know and adore it today. Some of the firm's most significant and important timepieces include the Reverso, the Memovox, the Atmos clock and, among modern watches, their Master Complications.
