Catalogue Essay
Jacob & Co is a renowned jeweller based in New York City which was founded in 1986 by Jacob Arabo. A relatively young brand, it has achieved great success in jewellery and later into high-end watchmaking. Jacob has a vision and wanted to create a watch that would be at the peak of technological sophistication, and yet also one that would capture the attention and imagination of everyone who saw it.
The Epic SF24 embodies the dream of Jacob Arabo, to transport the traveler back in time. Indeed, the movements of the miniature flaps are reminiscent of billboards from train stations and airports, the preferred locations of globetrotters. The flaps represent also a technical achievement of their own as they require 163 miniaturized components (473 in total for the movement) to provide a unique and instantaneous experience.
The Epic SF24 has an extremely sophisticated GMT mechanism, but is used in a playful manner. Indeed, on the wrist of its owner, activating the pusher on the left of the case allows the vertical time display of the 24 time zones of the world. The Epic SF24 for Only Watch is particularly unique in that it offers the opportunity for the purchaser to customize a flap, adding his or her favorite city.
