- After the success in the two amagnetic watches the ref. 3551 and ref. 3519, IWC decided to apply the newly acquired specialty to the renowned Ingenieur line. Instead of relying on a Faraday cage to block electromagnetic fields, the brand intended to make the movement amagnetic.
- One of the spotlights of the watch, without doubt, is the cal. 37590, based on the ETA cal. 2892-2. It is a heavily modified ETA movement, replacing existing parts with non-magnetic parts, such as a niobium zirconium alloy hairspring and ruby rotor ball-bearings. In 1989, the new Ingenieur was delivered and said to be able to resist magnetic fields up to 500,000 A/m.
- The ref. 3508 comes in a white or black dial, featuring a straightforward dial layout. The present watch is surely a lovable piece, with a design showing heavy presence of Gérald Genta as in the original Ingenieur SL from the 1970s. The bezel and the integrated bracelet are intriguing as the looks definitely resemble the legendary watchmaker’s favourable take in the metallic parts.
