Catalogue Essay
- IWC’s Da Vinci line began as an innovative model in 1969, powered by the Beta 21 movement and characterized by its distinctive cushion-like case, date display, and integrated bracelet (ref. 3501). Over the decades it has evolved into one of IWC’s most recognizable collections. Named for the Renaissance polymath Leonardo da Vinci, the series reflects a fusion of technical ingenuity and refined design.
- In 1985, at the Baselworld Watch Fair, IWC introduced ref. 3750 featuring Kurt Klaus’s ingenious integrated perpetual calendar module. That model presented a contemporary aesthetic with articulated bar lugs, unique pushers, and a double‑tiered round case.
- The upgraded ref. 3751—an historically significant perpetual calendar split‑seconds chronograph—was released in 1995 to mark the model’s tenth anniversary. The present ref. 3754 succeeded the 3751, adopting a larger, more modern 41.5 mm case and replacing baton markers with Arabic numerals for a fresher typographic look.
- Produced in platinum in a limited edition of 500 pieces between 2000 and 2004, the ref. 3754 is notable for its technical complexity, exceptional craftsmanship and rarity. The present example, number 178, is preserved in excellent overall condition.
