The Opus 9 redefines the classic functions of timekeeping and refines the presentation of time, envisioned in collaboration with the celebrated watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht and the haute horlogerie designer Eric Giroud in 2009. Using in total 66 Harry Winston signature emerald-cut diamonds and 6 garnet stones, the Opus 9 is the first timepiece of the celebrated series to use precious stones for the purpose of telling time.

Within the unusual-looking yet majestic watch, two parallel chains adorned with diamonds and garnets replace the conventional watch hands and dial to show the hours and minutes. To fit neatly into the movement, each gemstone has to be cut to the finest precision. The use of chain mechanism is not something entirely new, but the setting of the precious stones and additional weight presents a new challenge in technicality. Encased in a grandiose white gold case designed by Giroud, the Opus 9 is an opulent amalgamation of sublime horological technology and fine jewellery.

In the same year the watch was released, in the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève 2009, the “Design Watch Prize” was presented to Harry Winston in recognition of the technical and aesthetic finesse of the Opus 9. Numbered 82 of a limited of 100 pieces, the watch is complete with its original accessoires.
