Founded in 2004 by watchmakers Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey, Greubel Forsey has quickly distinguished itself for the technical innovations devised for their timepieces, usually aimed at both increasing the overall accuracy of the movement, and also to provide ample visual stimulus to the wearer. Their most famous creation is at the heart of the present timepiece: the inclined 24 seconds tourbillon. While normally a tourbillon takes 1 minute (or more) for a full revolution, in this case the time needed is less than half the standard. This allows for a fascinating spectacle when beholding the watch, but it commanded an enormous R&D effort, as the steps by which the tourbillon advances are more than twice that of a normal configuration. Consequently, the forces at play are much higher than usual, and Greubel Forsey had to recur to new materials derived from the aerospace industry in order to produce an effective timepiece. Furthermore, not only the tourbillon revolves at such a fast rate, but it also features a highly unusual configuration, with the balance wheel presenting a 25 degree inclination in relation to the central pivot. This allows to harness gravitational forces and use them to help the rotation of the regulating organ.

So impressive were the technological advancements introduced by the company that in 2011 - not even 10 years after its foundation! - it managed to win the International Chronometry Competition held by the Le Locle Museum of Horology with their groundbreaking Double Tourbillon Technique timepiece, thus proving that while aesthetically extremely pleasing, their innovations were also highly effective.
