Glashütte Original

Ref. 49-08-02-02-06

1965 Singapore

An unworn, very rare and attractive limited edition stainless steel wristwatch with hand-painted Meissen porcelain dial depicting Singapore, certificate and presentation box, numbered 20 of a limited edition of 28 pieces made to commemorate Singapore's 40 years of Independence

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Singapore’s independence (1965-2005), Glashütte Original collaborated with German master porcelain maker Meissen to create a special collection of wristwatches for this significant occasion.

It is quite rare to see porcelain used in watch dials, yet Glashütte Original is known for incorporating this material into their timepieces. The present watch showcases a hand-painted Map of Singapore from the mid-1800s, crafted by Meissen artisans.

Production was limited to just 40 pieces across all metals:

Stainless steel: 28 examples
18K pink gold: 10 examples
Platinum: 2 examples

The present example, numbered 20 in stainless steel, was last seen at auction 19 years ago and has since remained in the same collection and unworn. Accompanied by all of its original accessories, this watch is a fitting tribute to a significant milestone for the country and will undoubtedly hold a special place in the hearts of Singaporean watch collectors.
