GOOD TO KNOW
- Large retrograde hand to give an unusual impression
- Signature off-centre layout of the dial
- Annual calendar complication in 18K pink gold Octa calibre
With the distinctive dial layout the Octa Calendrier is easily one of the most recognizable F.P. Journe wristwatches, delivering the master watchmaker’s unique aesthetics and finest horological craftsmanship. With just a production run spanning from 2004 to 2015, it is the first wristwatch that combines an annual calendar with a large date, and a power reserve that is more than 120 hours.
The Octa Calendrier fitted with the cal. 1300-2 movement, a highly precise movement, features the annual calendar complication, which is the third complication to be added to the automatic Octa calibre. For non-leap years, the date is advanced manually from the 28th to the 29th of February by rotating the crown, then the date would advance automatically from the 29th to the 1st of March. The cal. 1300-2 uses 18K pink gold instead of brass for the base material, and the bridges are finished in Circular Côtes de Genève pattern. The self-winding rotor, made of 22K gold, is placed off-centre, not only does it improve the winding efficiency, but it also carries on the asymmetrical design aesthetics of F.P. Journe watches.
Apart from the mechanical aspect, the dial is, of course, in the typical F.P. Journe off-centred timekeeping layout. The dial is made of 18K white gold, while the sub-dials are made of whitened silver. The sub-dial is then decorated with the Clous de Paris guilloché pattern, further shows Journe’s exceptional attention to artisanal details.

F.P. Journe
Swiss | 1999Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.
Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
