Catalogue Essay

--François-Paul Journe is a modern master who brings technical skill and innovation to wristwatches that are classically designed with a contemporary vibe. His company was established in 1999 and follows the motto “Invenit et Fecit” ([He] invented it and made it), an indication the all of the brands’ watches are designed by Francois-Paul, and produced in house.

--In 2011, Journe released his Octa Sport line made in ultra-light aluminium, which was inspired by an important collector of the brand - a sportsman who sought a timepiece he could wear while completing a marathon or triathlon. Journe once again excited the watch world with his introduction of the next generation Octa Sport Automatique Réserve 2 in 2018 offered either in platinum, rose gold, and Grade 5 titanium with either anthracite or yellow dial, like the present example. Only the titanium versions were fitted with the self-winding cal. 1300.3 in aluminium alloy, making it ultra lightweight and comfortable.

--The present Octa Sport with yellow dial is offered in excellent overall condition and complete with guarantee and presentation box. It is a wonderful reminder of the technical innovation and craftsmanship demonstrated by this modern master.

F.P. Journe

Swiss | 1999

Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
