Catalogue Essay
The Vagabondage series by F.P. Journe was initiated in 2006 following a charity auction for a research institute focused on brain and spinal cord diseases in Paris. This unique model earned its name from its wandering digital time display and its distinctive flat turtle-shaped case, which deviates from the brand's round cases that are widely favored. In 2010, the Vagabondage II was introduced as the second of the trilogy, retaining the signature tortue-shaped case.
The Vagabondage II is an innovative and captivating timepiece that features jumping hours and minutes displayed through rotating discs positioned at the center of its symmetric dial layout. Notably, like its predecessor, the dial does not bear the brand name; however, it is rich with details that embody the unmistakable genetic codes of F.P. Journe. On the reverse side, admirers are treated to the sight of the caliber 1509, luxuriously crafted in pink gold and seamlessly integrated into the case.
Released as a limited edition, the Vagabondage II comprises 68 pieces in pink gold and 69 pieces in platinum. This particular pink gold model, numbered 61, remains in excellent condition with impeccable finishing and has recently been serviced at F.P. Journe in December 2024. Given the rarity of tortue-shaped timepieces among Monsieur Journe's creations, this example holds significant value as a highly collectible piece from one of the most esteemed independent master watchmakers in the world today.
Please note that part of the proceeds of the sale of the present watch will be given by the Consignor to the Husaini Yateem Khana Waqf Orphanage Trust.

F.P. Journe
Swiss | 1999Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.
Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
