Catalogue Essay
- In addition to the silvered dial versions of the Chronomètre Souverain, F.P. Journe introduced another stunning dial variant called the “Havana”, featuring an attractive chocolate brown dial. The dial was meticulously crafted by Journe's own dial makers, Les Cadraniers de Genève, during a long and grueling process. Achieving the perfect color required multiple adjustments to the secret formula, which involved a combination of gold and ruthenium.

- On the other hand, the movement of the watch draws inspiration from early 19th-century marine chronometry. It incorporates twin barrels, following the traditional configuration of precision timepieces to deliver stable power throughout its 56-hour power reserve. However, instead of the indicator progressing from 0 to 56 when winding the watch, it moves in the opposite direction towards 0. The rationale behind this design is that the power reserve indicator on the Chronomètre Souverain doesn't show the remaining hours but rather indicates the number of hours since the watch was last wound.

- The collection was honored with the Best Men's Watch Prize at the Geneva Grand Prix d'Horlogerie in 2005, and it continues to be regarded as one of the finest chronometers in the market, combining excellent wearability, legibility, and aesthetics.

F.P. Journe

Swiss | 1999
Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
