Catalogue Essay
The original DB28GS was first released in 2019, and it was De Bethune’s first ever sports watch, boasting an unprecedented elegant and technical design. In 2022, the GS (meaning Grand Sport) line returns with a special black and gold version, nodding to the glorious golden age of Formula One in the 1970s and harking back to the iconic John Player Special Lotus race cars.
The scale for elapsed time is found on the crystal inside the bezel, allowing for the cut-out numerals to light up when the button positioned at 6 o’clock is pressed. The dial lighting is produced entirely by mechanical means, working on the dynamo principle powered by a twin barrel and manually controlled via a pusher.
Powered by the mechanical calibre DB2080, the watch brings together famed De Bethune patents including the Titanium balance wheel with white gold inserts designed to optimise for temperature differences and air penetration, "De Bethune" balance-spring with flat terminal curve, the triple pare-chute shock-absorbing system and a patented self-regulating twin barrel which ensures 5-day power reserve.
Preserved by its original Japanese owner in excellent overall condition, the present watch is accompanied by its complete set of accessories, and two additional rubber straps.
