Catalogue Essay
One of Daniel Roth’s signature complications, the Retrograde was inspired by the similar complication made by Abraham-Louis Breguet, which was also the basis for the series of tourbillon pocket watches made by George Daniels that had a similar retrograde-hour display.

Traveling on a fan-shaped arc across the dial, the hour hand jumps back to its origin at six o’clock, making its retrograde journey twice a day. The minute hand is conventional, while the sub-dial at six displays the date.

Even though the watch is some two decades old, it is presented in a combination that is very much current – stainless steel with a salmon dial.

The Retrograde is presented in Daniel Roth’s instantly recognisable double-ellipse case that’s a combination of a circle and a square.

The dial, on the other hand, is decorated with a vertical guilloche and executed in a rich salmon-copper finish - the most striking dial colour for this model, which was also offered with a more conventional black or white dial. All of the hands are a classical blued steel.
