Catalogue Essay
Citizen boasts a rich history in watchmaking dating back to the 1920s. Known for their reliability and affordability, Citizen enjoy a strong following in Japan with their highly readable and versatile watches. The present collection aims to create something both mysterious and irresistible, featuring a one-of-a-kind dial made from Washi paper, indigo-dyed using traditional Japanese techniques.

Indigo dyeing is an ancient art practiced worldwide, but it has particularly deep roots in Japan, where indigo is traditionally regarded as a lucky color. The unique, eye-catching hue of the dial, known as “Japan Blue”, is achieved by hand-dyeing washi paper. This meticulous process takes place at an artisanal workshop in Tokushima, a region renowned for its indigo dyeing heritage.

Encased in robust yet lightweight titanium, the watch is powered by a quartz Eco-Drive movement, boasting an impressive annual accuracy of ±1 seconds per year, visible through the sapphire caseback. Each watch dial strikes a perfect balance between color and light permeability, resulting in a unique character and pattern for every piece, a distinctive addition to any Japanese watch collection.
