Catalogue Essay
The Alpine Eagle collection reflects Chopard’s creative richness and visionary spirit in equal measure, along with inspiration drawn from the power of Nature. The one-of-a-kind Alpine Eagle 41 XP remains true to this approach: a round case with stylised sides, a crown engraved with a compass rose, a bezel with eight functional indexed screws, luminescent indications, a comfortable metal bracelet and above all, a state-of-the-art material: Lucent Steel™. This innovative steel alloy made with an 80% recycling rate was developed by Chopard for its robustness and incomparable brilliance obtained through a meticulous remelting process.
The Alpine Eagle 41 XP model is endowed with pure, sleek lines and harmonious proportions. Measuring 41 millimeters in diameter and just eight millimeters thick, its case, featuring a slimmed-down bezel and sides, provides a wide opening onto the unprecedented dial. The thinness of the case is made possible by the use of the in-house L.U.C 96.17-L movement, itself measuring just 3.30 mm thick. This self-winding calibre is equipped with a 22-carat gold off-centre micro-rotor. Its high inertia enables it to wind the two stacked barrels of ChopardTwin technology, which store the energy needed to give the Alpine Eagle 41 XP Time For Art a total 65-hour power reserve.
Chopard
Swiss | 1860At the age of 24, Louis-Ulysse Chopard started his company L.U.C. Chopard in Sonviller, Switzerland. Since the brand's inception in 1860, Chopard understood the need for thin and accurate pocket watches to be functional for daily wear. The brand gained world recognition in 1912 after Tsar Nicolas II became a client.
Following Louis-Ulysse's death in 1915, his sons Paul-Louis and Paul André took over the business and moved their headquarters to La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1963, the company was taken over by Karl Scheufele, who remains the brand's owner. Arguably Chopard's most recognizable design, the "Happy" line, was inspired by Scheufele's daughter Caroline. In 1996, his son Karl-Friedrich established Chopard as a manufacturer of its own range of in-house movements under the name L.U.C., creating groundbreaking, exquisitely finished watches that have earned the brand worldwide acclaim.
