Good to know:

- First time seen in the auction market, “like-new” condition
- Unusual looking jewellery watch with strong impression
- Combination of pink gold and the exclusive violet gold

The Clash de Cartier collection expanded at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2023 when they released the Clash [Un]limited series, consisting of five models of different precious metal combinations or gemstone variants.

The present watch, making its debut in the auction market, is a combination of 18K pink gold with the exclusive alloy, violet gold. The watch, in an unusual look amongst Cartier watches, has a strong and rigid volume. The centre links are fitted with rolling beads and facetted edges, binding with the watch segment, it forms into an articulated bracelet that gives a strong impression and ultra-modern look. By polishing the edges of the bracelet in brushed and glossy finishing, it elevates the exaggerated form of the watch.

One should not overlook the design of the dial. Paired with sword-shaped hands, the dial gives a simplistic and clean look with a subtle sunburst pattern. It does not bear the usual characteristics of an Art Deco inspired Cartier dial, yet the enlarged Roman numerals “XII” and “VI” draw the attention.

The watch does not have a crown, instead, it relies on a setting pin to press the pusher at the rear to set time, in which it would not disturb the overall look of the whole watch. Kept in “like-new” condition, this wristwatch is Cartier’s atypical approach to modern jewellery watch that any Cartier enthusiasts should not miss out.

Cartier

French

With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.

Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
