Catalogue Essay
Following the previous example in white gold, the present pink gold is also numbered 150 of 150 pieces, the last to be produced of its respective metal. Equally stunning and well-preserved by its discerned collector, all three examples were bought from the boutique the same day, 16th of November in 1998. One could imagine the excitement upon the day of collecting not just one, but three of these 150th anniversary Mysterieux pocket watches together.
Featuring the unique 150th anniversary intertwined guilloché motif and L♡C 1847-1997 anniversary crest to commemorate the collection known as “I love Cartier”, the bow of the pocket watch is cleverly designed with a C shaped logo. Complete with a rarely seen wooden L♡C logo presentation box and original certificate, the present Cartier mystery pocket watch captures an intriguing mechanism originated from 1912, with the hands appearing levitated within the dial. This illusion is achieved thanks to two transparent discs and its concealed gear, propelling the passage of time.

Cartier
FrenchWith the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
