Catalogue Essay
- In 1917, Louis Cartier created the very first Tank watch, with the first prototype presented as a gift to General Pershing some years before the model was introduced into the market in 1919. Since then, Cartier has countlessly made variations of the classic model, with the Tank being an icon in the catalog.

- The present version, launched in 2023 was met with commercial success upon its introduction to the market. It retains the familiar case with its wide brancards, but adopts a time display with a 24-hour scale. The Tank Normale Skeleton is equipped with the cal. 9628 MC, a new calibre developed specifically for the model. The dial is actually the movement’s base plate, designed with an open-worked day-and-night theme. The top part shows a stylized sun, and the bottom part has a crescent moon.

- Preserved in like-new condition, the present watch is accompanied by its Cartier limited edition Certificate of Origin, additional blank certificate of origin, cloth, loupe, presentation box and outer packaging.

Cartier

French
With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
