  • Catalogue Essay

    - The Bulgari Octo Finissimo collection made its debut in 2012 and has since become synonymous with the brand, establishing itself as one of Bulgari's most famous designs. This collection seamlessly combines Swiss watchmaking and Italian design, resulting in a unique fusion of styles that sets it apart. In a remarkable collaboration, Bulgari partnered with prize-winning Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima in 2022 to create the Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition. This 360-piece limited edition takes the collection to new heights, showcasing the shared vision of two exceptional creative forces.

    - Unlike the standard models, this Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition features a distinct aesthetic. The entire case and bracelet are meticulously crafted with fully high-polished surfaces, creating a mirror-like appearance that exudes elegance. To add a personal touch, Kazuyo Sejima's signature is etched onto the sapphire window on the reverse side of the watch, further highlighting the collaboration.

    - The dial of the Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition is where it truly distinguishes itself from the rest of the collection. Made from treated sapphire crystal, the dial surface offers a mesmerizing mirror effect, completely devoid of any hour markers. This unique design approach reflects the shared desire of Sejima and Bulgari to create an "invisible watch," playing with the concepts of light and transparency to achieve a striking overall aesthetic. It also draws inspiration from Sejima's previous work on the invisible train concept in 2018, resulting in a timepiece that is as visually captivating as it can.

    - Despite its sleek and minimalist design, the Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition houses the ultra-thin calibre BVL 138, measuring a mere 2.23mm in thickness. This remarkable movement incorporates a micro-rotor made of platinum, ensuring optimal power generation. As a rare and exceptional piece of modern horological art, the Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition caters to discerning collectors who appreciate the finest craftsmanship and seek a timepiece with a unique design narrative. It exemplifies the seamless blend of innovation, elegance, and artistic collaboration that Bulgari has become renowned for in the world of horology.

  • Artist Biography

    Bulgari

    Italian

Originally from Kalarites, Greece, Sotirios Voulgaris emigrated to Rome because of Greece's rising poverty and difficulty separating from the Ottoman Empire. He set foot on Italian soil in 1880 with little money in his pocket and spent the next four years preparing what would go on to become Italy's oldest jewelry company.

In 1884, Bulgari opened its doors to the Italian people with its offering of jewelry and accessories. Bulgari's style takes from traditions in Greek and Roman craftsmanship to elegantly balance volume and subtlety. Later, in the late 1960s, Bulgari bridged classicism and modernity by introducing its seductive, now-iconic Serpenti collection of snake-shaped coil bracelets and watches. It is through its meticulous combination of influences that Bulgari has garnered an international and loyal high-profile clientele, which included Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. These Hollywood stars have immortalized the house's unique gem-adorned bracelets, necklaces and earrings in rounded forms.
