    - When it comes to chronographs, Breitling has pioneered feats few others can claim. As early as 1915, they released a wrist-mounted chronograph ahead of the curve. By 1923, Breitling had patented the first two-button chronograph, allowing successive time measurements without resetting in between - a revelation for precise timing. Though their heritage was already illustrious, the Navitimer propelled Breitling to greater heights.

    - This aviation instrument integrated a slide rule into the bezel, enabling pilots to calculate mid-flight with elegance and ease. The beaded ridges allowed gloved hands to grip and turn precisely. While the slide rule may seem confounding to the uninitiated, it was critical for pre-digital navigation.

    - The Navitimer embodied pragmatic design, every element engineered for accuracy and efficiency. Its seamless fusion of form and function has made it Breitling's most enduring icon. Still in production, it remains a staple for pilots and collectors alike, its capabilities as vital now as ever - a testament to its peerless chronographic pedigree.

    - The present Navitimer 1461 houses a perpetual calendar in French with moon phases and chronograph function, while maintaining a bi-directional slide rule bezel, a hallmark of the Navitimer line. Strictly limited to 25 pieces worldwide, this example in platinum is numbered 25 (marked on both dial and caseback) and preserved in very good condition with all its original accessories. This timepiece is a true representation of the pinnacle of Breitling's watchmaking prowess.

  • Artist Biography

    Breitling

    Swiss • 1884

The firm started by Leon Breitling in 1884 is best known for its technical aviation and oceanic watches. Today, all models are outfitted with certified chronometer movements, used for accurate timing. Early aviation pioneers in specialized chronograph timepieces, Breitling introduced the circular slide rule to watches in the 1940s for use by pilots. The firm’s most iconic chronograph, the Navitimer, was introduced in 1954 and continues to be manufactured today. Another key model is the Duograph, a split-seconds chronograph that was Breitling's most prestigious wristwatch during the 1940s through '60s. Their watches are built on their reputation for precision and sturdiness.
