  • Catalogue Essay

    - The master watchmaker Abraham Louis Breguet is undoubtedly one of the most important figures in the history of watchmaking. Hailed as the father of modern watchmaking, Breguet is revered for his magnificent contribution to countless horological milestones, from developing the tourbillon, to conceiving the world’s first-ever wristwatch.

    - Launched in 2005, the concept of the Breguet’s Tradition Collection was to pay homage to Abraham Louis Breguet’s legacy, especially taking inspiration from his earlier timepieces. The execution of the movement was in particular a re-iteration of the popular Souscription pocket watches from the mid-1790’s, a simple design created under Breguet’s vision to design watches that are reliable, easy to repair and affordable.

    - The 7057 was a larger edition with the case measuring 40mm diameter introduced in 2010. The gear trains and the beating organ of the movement are displayed on top of the baseplate, and with the semi-skeletonized dial on top, the wearer can delightfully devour the mesmerising anthracite movement architecture in its full immensity. This is harmoniously paired with the black classic Breguet-style main dial at the 12 o’clock, garnished with the iconic Clous de Paris guilloché surface with brushed hour and minute ring. A power reserve indication of up to 50 hours is discreetly positioned on the upper left of dial, remarkably also visible from the back of the watch through the transparent case back.

    - The present watch is preserved in great condition, and complete with its original certificate and presentation box. Truly an epitome of refinement and elegance, this exemplary example is not to be missed by the tasteful connoisseur.

    Breguet

    Swiss • 1775

Established in 1775 by Abraham Louis Breguet, widely considered the greatest watchmaker of all time, the storied brand continues to thrive in the modern era, creating exceptional high-end watches as the Swatch Group's premier prestige brand. Some of the most important and lasting inventions in watchmaking are attributed to Abraham Louis Breguet, including the tourbillon, shock resistance and the use of hammers and gongs employed in nearly all minute repeating watches made since.

Eighteenth and nineteenth century Breguet pocketwatches are especially sought-after by collectors, and many of them were made for the elite of European society, including Napoléon and Marie Antoinette. Key wristwatches from the twentieth century include oversized dress watches, two-register chronographs, triple calendars and Type XX aviator's chronographs made for the French military and civilians.
