In 1873, Abraham-Louis Breguet developed the world's first minute repeating watch with a gong spring, replacing the traditional bell. This innovation revolutionized the minute repeating mechanism, and today, the gong spring remains a key component in any minute repeating timepiece.
The present watch not only showcases exceptional craftsmanship in its movement but is also set with 88 dazzling baguette diamonds that radiate brilliance from the wrist. The bezel is channel-set with 36 calibré-cut diamonds, the case sides are adorned with 24 square-cut and baguette diamonds, and the lugs are further embellished with 28 baguette diamonds, totaling approximately 10.5 carats.
Classic in every aspect, the reference 3631 is encased in a sleek white gold case, featuring the brand’s iconic guilloché dial executed in four different techniques: "Clou de Paris" on the main dial, "Damier croisé" on the register at 9 o’clock, "Vieux paniers" on the upper half of the register at 3 o’clock, and "Décor flammé" on the lower half. The caliber 567 is based on a Lemania ebauche, inspired by vintage repeaters from the Vallée de Joux.
With its extreme rarity, only a handful of these timepieces are known to exist in the market. The watch also comes with the original invoice from 1999, indicating a purchase price of an impressive HKD 1,880,000. This particular example, offered for the first time at Phillips and preserved in attractive like-new condition, presents a wonderfully crisp chime.
