  • Catalogue Essay

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore was first introduced to the public in 1993. Since its initial launch many variations and models have been added to the lineage of one of the industry’s most popular wristwatches in modern days. Due to its iconic case design resembling its thinner forefather, the Offshore is somewhat a sporty iteration of the classic design.

In 2010, Audemars Piguet introduced a complicated Royal Oak Offshore Double Barrel Tourbillon. With a pumped up 44mm diameter case, the watch is not the largest Offshore reference introduced by the manufacturer, models featuring larger case diameter such as the “Shaq” and “Arnold All-Stars” measure a generous 48mm in case diameters. With a relatively large and thick case, the watch features several components that require such case dimensions, such as the double barrel and the tourbillon escapement. The double barrel enhances the duration of the power reserve, up to 237 impressive hours, compared to the traditional 48-hour power reserve in the average timepiece. Furthermore, the tourbillon escapement consists of 70 components, enabling improved gravitational compensation. The case is composed of 18K pink gold, forged carbon bezel and ceramic pushers and crown. The combination of color, texture and contrast is exceptionally intriguing.

The present example is complete with all the accessories that came with the watch when it was purchased by the original owner.
